Golden Days by Boston Artist, Melody Phaneuf
New Lecture Series At Lenox Hotel Will Support Restoration at Fenway Studios
American Art Curator Theodore Stebbins (MFA and Harvard’s Fogg Museum) headlines a roster of art experts in Studio Series Talks, to be held at the Lenox Hotel. “The MFA, the Boston School, and Me” highlights the Boston School of Painting, an important movement in American art in the early 1900s and one closely tied to the Fenway Studios on Ipswich Street. The talk helps support preservation of Fenway Studios, a National Historic Landmark of spacious studios and the oldest building in the country that has been used continuously for studios. Early in the 20th century, following a disastrous fire that destroyed another studio building, a group of prominent Bostonians organized to raise funds for building the structure in the then “modern” Arts and Crafts style. The first artists moved into their studios in 1905.
Stebbins’s talk takes place Tuesday, November 1, at 6 pm. Tickets are $50, or $200 for the full series of five lectures. Reservations are required. For further information, visit www.friendsoffenwaystudios.org or call 617-695-9720.
